Organization: BadaelClosing date: 14 Sep 2026Position: ResearcherContract Duration: 12 months, with the possibility of extension.Working Time: 80%–100%Strate date: ASAPPosition SummaryThe Researcher will contribute to Badael’s research and knowledge-production work across its key thematic areas, including peacebuilding, justice and reconciliation, inclusive governance, social cohesion, feminist approaches to peace and governance, and oral history and memory. The role will support the design and implementation of research studies, qualitative data collection and analysis, and the drafting of research papers, policy analysis, and other knowledge products. The Researcher will also contribute to examining and documenting approaches and methodologies emerging from Badael’s field-based work, helping translate practice and field-generated evidence into research, learning, and knowledge. The role includes contributing to collaborative research and knowledge-production processes with external partners, as well as to oral-history and archive-building initiatives that centre marginalized voices, lived experiences, and untold stories.Key ResponsibilitiesResearch Design, Implementation and AnalysisContribute to the development and design of research studies and knowledge-production initiatives, including research ideas and questions, methodologies, analytical frameworks, and research tools, in line with Badael’s areas of work and emerging areas of inquiry.Undertake research and data collection as needed, including desk research, interviews, focus group discussions, consultations, and other qualitative and participatory research methods.Organise, code, and analyse qualitative data collected through research studies or generated through Badael’s programmes, identifying key themes, patterns, relationships, differences across groups and locations, and emerging findings.Draw on relevant academic, policy, theoretical, and practice-based literature to support the interpretation of findings and situate Badael’s research within wider debates and bodies of knowledge.Draft and contribute to research papers, policy papers, think pieces, and other knowledge products, including taking responsibility for specific research products or components as assigned.Provide guidance and supervision to field researchers and data collectors, when required for specific research processes, to support consistent application of research methodologies, tools, ethical standards, and documentation practices.Knowledge Partnerships and Collaborative SpacesRepresent and actively contribute to research and knowledge-production spaces in which Badael participates, including research partnerships, working groups, learning spaces, and collaborative research initiatives.Contribute to joint research and knowledge products developed with researchers, research institutions, civil society organisations, and other relevant partners.Participate in discussions, workshops, conferences, and other spaces through which Badael’s research, evidence, and perspectives contribute to wider policy, academic, and practitioner debates.Oral History and Archive BuildingContribute to the development of archives and oral-history initiatives that document lived experiences, marginalized voices, and histories and stories that have been overlooked, excluded, or underrepresented in dominant narratives.Apply ethical, feminist, and context-sensitive oral-history approaches that centre narrators’ agency and attend to questions of power, representation, memory, voice, and ownership.Contribute to transforming oral-history materials into research and knowledge products that preserve diverse histories while enabling deeper understanding of social, political, and historical experiences.Qualifications and ExperienceMaster’s degree in social sciences, political science, sociology, peace and conflict studies, history, or another relevant field.Experience with qualitative and participatory research approaches, with demonstrated ability to work with, code, analyse, and interpret qualitative data.Knowledge of, or demonstrated interest in, areas relevant to Badael’s work, particularly peacebuilding, justice and reconciliation, inclusive governance, social cohesion, oral history, and memory.Ability to engage critically with academic and policy literature and connect theoretical and conceptual debates with field-based research and evidence.Ability to work collaboratively with programme teams, field researchers, external researchers, and partner organisations.Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Arabic and EnglishHow to applyInterested candidates are invited to submit the following documents:Curriculum Vitae (CV) outlining relevant qualifications, research experience, and previous assignments.Financial Offer, indicating:the proposed monthly consultancy feethe total proposed fee for the 12-month assignment.Applications should be sent by email to hr@badael.org with the subject line: ResearcherOnly shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
