Country: Jamaica Organization: Americares Closing date: 3 Oct 2026 Position Title: Mental Health Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Lead, Jamaica Department: Regional Programs - Americas Location: Jamaica The position is mostly in-person with training and partnership work taking place at various organizations throughout the country. The position will also be based from home, with regular communication and collaboration with HQ and other teams remotely. The position is expected to travel within Jamaica 50% of the time, including to locations impacted by disasters. Some work will take place on weekends/outside of business hours during the contract year. Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings. Understand and actively lead Americares policies, procedures, and guidelines. Establish relationships with key government, health sector, and community partners. Conduct psychosocial and programmatic needs assessments to inform implementation priorities and establish any safe and accountable risks. Establish confidential referral and escalation pathways for participant concerns and needs. Develop detailed workplans and launch MHPSS activities in alignment with grant objectives and ensuring safe and accountable best practices. Partner with HQ teams to begin planning for an annual organizational event that will be taking place in Jamaica in 2027. Supervise and orient MHPSS Officers and project personnel, providing training and accountability for policies, procedures, compliance, and safe and accountable programming. Begin delivery of staff care, psychoeducation, and capacity-building activities. Establish monitoring, reporting, and quality assurance systems for program implementation. In the first 6 months, the role will: Lead the full implementation of safe and accountable MHPSS programming across priority locations in Jamaica. Strengthen partner capacity through trainings, mentorship, and Training of Trainers activities. Ensure effective referral pathways and coordination mechanisms are functioning. Monitor program performance and compliance, and make evidence-based adaptations to improve quality and reach. Successfully support with the planning and implementation of an organizational large-scale event in Jamaica. Represent Americares in relevant MHPSS and humanitarian coordination forums. Contribute to program reporting, learning products, and strategic planning efforts. In the first year, the role will: Successfully oversee delivery of the Jamaica MHPSS program and achievement of key grant objectives. Strengthen sustainable safe and accountable MHPSS capacity among healthcare workers, social service providers, and community partners. Demonstrate measurable improvements in access to psychosocial support services and referral systems. Ensure high-quality monitoring, reporting, compliance, and grant management throughout the project. Integrate MHPSS approaches into broader Americares health and humanitarian programming and support future program development opportunities. Duties and Responsibilities: -Lead and manage implementation of Americares MHPSS program in Jamaica, ensuring compliance and best practices for this role and direct reports. -Supervise, mentor, and support MHPSS staff, consultants, and partners, ensuring success in meeting objectives while also supporting their professional growth. -Oversee delivery and quality assurance of psychosocial support services, trainings (including Psychological First Aid), and staff wellbeing initiatives. -Manage partnerships, grants, budgets, workplans, and compliance requirements. -Strengthen community engagement and referral pathways for mental health and psychosocial services, including outreach with partners and potential partners to deepen and widen impact and referral networks. -Monitor program performance, analyze data, and contribute to reporting and learning activities. -Represent Americares with government, partner, and coordination stakeholders and support integration of MHPSS into broader health programming. -Ensure that the work of direct reports and the overall project align to Americares policies, procedures, and guidelines. -Actively model and lead Americares values, work culture and mission. -Engage in and contribute to team spaces with openness, global competencies, and a growth mindset. -Lead a global work community that ensures safe and accountable workspaces and programming. -Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Degrees and/or experience required for the role: • Active MHPSS related licensure and good standing with the Jamaica Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine (CPSM). • Graduate degree in psychology, counselling, or directly related field. These competencies are required for the role: -Experience in and competencies aligned with designing, implementing, and supervising MHPSS interventions. -Strong clinical and psychosocial support expertise, including trauma-informed and crisis intervention approaches. -Demonstrated ability to lead trainings, mentorship, and capacity-building initiatives for health and community-based personnel. -Impeccable judgment, especially in high stress and independent working environments. -Prior success with oversight of grants, partnerships, workplans, and program compliance requirements. -Ability to conduct psychosocial and programmatic needs assessments and adapt programming accordingly. -Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and stakeholders across field and headquarters environments. -Strong monitoring, reporting, and data-driven decision-making skills. Unrestricted Jamaican work authorization is required for this role.
