Robots are well-established in the manufacturing sector, and increasingly used in the nuclear industry, marine industry, agriculture, health and social care and logistics. Robots are widely discussed as a target of familiar cyber attacks. Sensitive information, including personal data and proprietary information, can be targeted by cyber criminals. Like other connected devices, robots may have vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers. These vulnerabilities can also lead to downtimes, or unauthorised access and control.The objective is to inform any cyber security policy measures needed to safeguard the use of robots in the UK.The findings will be used by the DSIT Cyber Security and Digital Identity Directorate and Digital Infrastructure Directorate, which lead on relevant policy.
