Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern IrelandOrganization: International Maritime OrganizationClosing date: 16 Oct 2026Under the supervision of the Head of the Facilitation Section, the incumbent will participate in and contribute to the implementation of the Section's programme of work relating to facilitation, maritime digitalization, data harmonization, port administration and technical cooperation activities. The incumbent will be expected to undertake in the Maritime Safety Division, a broad range of responsibilities and to adapt to evolving organizational priorities, including the delivery of new projects and initiatives in response to emerging operational, technological, regulatory or strategic requirements of the Maritime Safety Division and the Organization.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide secretariat support to the Facilitation Committee (FAL), the Expert Group on Data Harmonization (EGDH), and other related subsidiary bodies and working groups, as required including the preparation of briefs, notes, documents and reports, and the development and review of manuals, guidance and other publications.Act as Secretary of the Expert Group on Data Harmonization (EGDH) coordinating and supporting its work, including the preparation of meeting documentation, reports, correspondence and follow-up actions.Deal with maritime facilitation, maritime digitalization, port administration and port management issues, including the management, maintenance and development of GISIS modules, databases, information systems and data structures supporting the IMO Compendium on Facilitation and Electronic Business, Maritime Single Window (MSW) implementation and data harmonization activities, and provide technical advice and assistance to Member States, international organizations, port authorities and industry stakeholders, as appropriate.Assist in the preparation for, serving and following-up of, meetings of Committees, Sub-Committees and other relevant bodies through the preparation of documents, briefs and reports; and assist in other meetings, as appropriate.Act as Secretary of working, drafting or expert groups established by the Facilitation Committee, the Maritime Safety Committee or other relevant bodies.Assist in the conduct of multidisciplinary projects, coordinating and supporting their implementation; and in other work of the Maritime Safety Division as may be assigned;Prepare reports, publications, circulars and other documents and correspondence as assigned, including responses to queries on IMO instruments, facilitation matters, maritime digitalization, port administration and port management issues.Support the delivery of technical cooperation and capacity-building activities related to maritime facilitation, maritime digitalization, port management, Maritime Single Window implementation and data harmonization, including the organization of, and participation in, seminars, workshops, training courses and missions, as required.Carry out missions to Member States on specific assignments; represent the Organization at meetings, conferences, seminars and workshops; and prepare and deliver presentations, lectures and technical papers, as required.Undertake such other duties connected to the work of the Maritime Safety Division as may be assigned.Undertake such other duties connected with the work of the Organization as may be assigned.Required CompetenciesAbility to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a cross-cultural environment.High capacity for independent planning, organizational skills, ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining high quality work outputs.Professionalism, confidentiality, initiative, integrity, tact and sound judgement.Ability to communicate complex issues clearly both orally and in writing.Professional ExperienceA minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in maritime transport, shipping, port management, data management, maritime facilitation or related fields is essential.EducationUniversity degree or equivalent in Maritime Transport, Shipping and Port Management, Logistics International Trade or data management.Language SkillsProficiency in English (written and oral). Working knowledge of other official language/s of the UN, will be an advantage.Other SkillsRelevant professional experience in the maritime and port sector is essential. Advanced skills in MS Office applications. Thorough knowledge of relevant international conventions and other IMO instruments.
