This report examines the critical role of childcare support in strengthening workforce performance, gender equity, and institutional resilience within the water sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. Drawing on data from seven water institutions across the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Peru, the study finds that inadequate childcare support disrupts productivity, increases absenteeism, limits career advancement, and contributes to higher attrition risks, particularly for women. It also highlights that childcare responsibilities increasingly affect both mothers and fathers, underscoring the need for inclusive workplace solutions. Despite these challenges, most institutions lack formal childcare policies and support mechanisms. The report presents evidence-based recommendations, including flexible work arrangements, childcare subsidies, on-site childcare facilities, and institutional policy frameworks, to help employers enhance workforce diversity, employee well-being, and service reliability. By treating childcare as a strategic workforce investment rather than solely a social issue, water institutions can improve operational effectiveness while supporting long-term human capital development.
