The Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan(MENAAP) region can bolster food and nutrition security andcreate more and better jobs if it pursues more ambitious andcoherent investments and policies and empowers the privatesector. While countries differ widely, all face challenges in ensuringfood and nutrition security (FNS)—and all share opportunities forcreating more and better jobs in their agrifood systems (AFSs).This report offers three central insights. First, more ambitiousinvestment and policy making are needed to meet the moment.Second, policy cannot succeed unless it leverages opportunitiesacross the economy, beyond the AFS: it needs to empowerconsumers to access nutritious food, but also needs to boostproduction, ensure more sustainable water and land use, leveragetrade, and create a business environment that lets the private sectorthrive. Third, with such an improved business environment, theprivate sector can do far more.
