Somalia’s humanitarian crisis remains driven by intensifying conflict, extreme climate shocks, and disease outbreaks. Despite government efforts, conflict incidents rose 21% in 2024, restricting aid to 4.3 million people. Simultaneously, the worst drought in 50 years continues into 2025, affecting 80% of pasturelands, while 2024’s floods displaced 1.2 million people—with El Niño expected to worsen conditions. As a result, 6.9 million people face acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3+), and 2.1 million children are projected to suffer acute malnutrition, including 530,000 with severe wasting—the highest global burden. These overlapping crises heighten disease risks and demand a comprehensive humanitarian response. However, data gaps hinder effective planning: 35% of priority districts lack recent assessments, nomadic/rural IDPs remain undocumented, and 22% of new settlements are missing from CCCM’s registry. The 2025 MSNA addresses these gaps through a two-phase, multi-stage sampling approach. Phase 1 informs the August IPC analysis, while Phase 2 supports the 2026 HNRP, expanding coverage across key sectors including Food Security, Nutrition, Health, WASH, Education, Protection, and Shelter.
