For over a decade, the Central African Republic (CAR) has faced a conflict marked by the persistent presence of armed groups. Violence against civilians, combined with the effects of climate change—particularly flooding—is a major cause of population displacement. Lack of access to basic infrastructure and socio-economic opportunities forces displaced persons and host communities to resort to negative coping mechanisms, often linked to survival in crisis situations, further exposing them to the risks of exploitation and abuse. Between May 2024 and April 2025, 110 humanitarian alerts were recorded, affecting nearly 216,000 people in 19 prefectures, primarily as a result of violence and natural disasters. In total, more than 441,000 internally displaced persons and 680,000 refugees were registered. In this context of increasing vulnerability, approximately 2.4 million people are identified as being in need of assistance. of humanitarian assistance in 2025, with priorities in food security, water, hygiene, health, protection, and education.Given such a volatile context, it is essential to have up-to-date and disaggregated information by population, geographic area, sex, and age to better understand evolving needs and enable humanitarian actors to target the most vulnerable groups. To address this need, the OCHA Inter-Cluster Coordination Group (ICCG) and the Assessment and Information Management Working Group (AIMWG) are supporting the implementation of the National Humanitarian Assessment (NHA) for the seventh consecutive year in the Central African Republic (CAR). The Multi-Sectoral Needs Assessment (MSNA) aims to provide the humanitarian community with data to enable it to better understand the nature and severity of humanitarian needs, particularly in food security; shelter; water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH); health; education; protection and accountability to affected populations at the level of 57 out of 85 sub-prefectures of the CAR both by geographical area and by population group following the Central African crisis, caused by the effects of the 2013 coup d'état, in order to inform the 2026 Humanitarian Programming Cycle.
