VASSEUR ruckkeenee@afd.fr Tue, 28 Jul, 2026 - 10:16 Mathieu July 27, 2026 Agence Française de Développement Senior Management Executive Director for Geographic Operations Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Career Mathieu Vasseur is Executive Director for Geographic Operations at Agence Française de Développement (AFD). He oversees AFD’s operations and network across Africa, the “Orients” (Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia), the Three Oceans, and Latin America. Before taking up this position, he served as Regional Director for Enlargement and the European Neighborhood, based in Istanbul, from 2023. Before that, he was Regional Director for North Africa, based in Casablanca, from 2019 to 2023. During more than 20 years at AFD, he also served as Deputy Director of the Mediterranean Department and later the Africa Department. He has held a range of operational positions at headquarters and across AFD’s network in Africa, the Mediterranean, and the French overseas territories. A graduate of the École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay, Mathieu Vasseur earned the agrégation, France’s competitive teaching qualification, in economics and management and specialized in international economics and development economics at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He also completed the Advanced European Studies Program at the Institut national du service public (INSP), formerly the École nationale d’administration (ENA).
