The objective of this project is to strengthen public trust and confidence in Iraq’s security institutions by enhancing accountable, inclusive, and community-responsive policing practices in areas of return and border regions. The project focuses on two primary pillars: i) increase Iraq’s security agencies legitimacy and accountability in areas of return and border areas through an increased professionalization of police and border guards and mainstream of CEP approaches across different Directorates within the MoI; and ii) strengthen the CP community outreach, especially amongst women, through the CP Women Empowerment and Protection (WEP) Action Plan, to ensure rights-based stabilization interventions that respond to the needs of communities. The project will target areas with significant numbers of returnees from northeast Syria as well as border areas, particularly focusing on the governorates of Ninewa, Anbar, Salah al Din, Basra, and Missan, and will be implemented jointly with the Integrated Border Governance (IBG) team and the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) teams of IOM Iraq.
