Ethiopia’s Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) Roadmap 2025-2030 provides a strategic framework for integrating environmental and economic information into national planning and decision-making through the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA). The roadmap builds on Ethiopia’s initial achievements in developing land accounts and outlines actions to institutionalize NCA by strengthening governance structures, improving data systems, enhancing capacity, and increasing awareness among stakeholders. It prioritizes the development of five key accounts: land, ecosystem, water, forest, and energy accounts, with implementation guided by a Steering Committee and specialized Technical Working Groups. The roadmap also links NCA to national development goals, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, sustainable land management, and investment planning tools. By embedding NCA into policy and planning processes, Ethiopia aims to support evidence-based decision-making, balance economic growth with environmental sustainability, and improve the long-term management of the country’s natural resources.
