Across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT supports the protection of journalists and media producers, facilitates programme and content development, and conducts media research and monitoring, in addition to supporting the financial viability of our partners.2. The ProgramThe Human Rights & Migration legal expert is to support the MiCT Critical Voices Fellowship for Critical Voices which is aimed at media professionals from conflict and crisis regions who share a common value in their professional journalistic integrity. The program is focused on at-risk journalists and media makers from across the globe.3. Description of the roleTo support Fellows who are having to move into exile for security reasons, MiCT is looking for a human rights and migration legal expert to provide guidance and legal advice on visa and work permit processes and requirements for media makers. The service should cover the following aspects:Conducting thorough assessments and advice to individual Fellows on their personal situationAssist in preparing and submitting visa applications (Work, humanitarian and others), ensuring all necessary documentation is accurate and completeProvide advice for the MiCT team on visa application processes globallyPrepare Fellows for visa interviewsContracts will run from September 2026 until June 2027 on a freelance, ad-hoc, needs basis. No minimum number of hours can be assured.4.1 Application RequirementsSuccessful applicants should be able to provide proof of the following:Specialist knowledge of migration and human rights law globallyExtensive experience in developing case files and collecting the necessary information in a sensitive mannerFamiliarity with the specific challenges faced by media makers in the visa and work permit processes is a benefitExperience in sensitive handling of personal informationFlexibility to work across time zones, with translators and through various means of communicationExcellent communication and advocacy skills, with strong links to existing global, migration support structuresFluency in English is required, working knowledge of other languages spoken in crisis and conflict regions is an asset4.2 Evaluation Criteria (Award Criteria)Applications meeting all eligibility criteria under 4.1 will be evaluated and ranked on the basis of the best price-quality ratio, using the following weighted criteria:Evaluation criterionWeightingKnowledge of relevant migration and human rights law globally - 20%Experience in developing relevant visa documentation - 30%Experience working with at-risk journalists - 20%Daily rate (price) - 30%Working knowledge of the regional contexts named above, other working languages, are an advantage and are reflected within the relevant weighted criteria rather than as separate pass/fail requirements. MiCT reserves the right to invite shortlisted applicants to a short interview before final selection.Offers must remain valid and binding for 60 days from the submission deadline above.MiCT will evaluate applications against the eligibility and evaluation criteria set out in Section 4.
